AI and the Persecution of the Saints

Last week there was a story about a high school principal in Maryland who was placed on leave after an audio recording of him making racist and antisemitic comments surfaced. The only problem: it wasn’t really him on the recording, it was the AI version of his voice.

According to court records, detectives had asked outside experts to analyze the recording, and at a news conference last Thursday, the police chief said that it was indeed determined that the recording was generated through the use of artificial intelligence technology.

The high school athletic director is now in custody and facing criminal charges after police say he used AI to duplicate the voice of the principal, which resulted in the community believing that the principal had made racist and antisemitic remarks about teachers and students.

This was just the latest case of AI being used to fake audio recordings, with a recent example being this year’s New Hampshire primary, as AI-generated robocalls impersonated President Biden’s voice and tried to convince Democratic voters to not vote.

Audio deep fakes are especially concerning to law enforcement because the technology has improved so quickly. While discrepancies in videos and images are easier to spot, human ears simply can’t always identify telltale signs of manipulation with audio.

The Bible talks about the saints being persecuted in the last days, including how the coming of the Antichrist will be accompanied by lying wonders and deception.

Even him, whose coming is after the working of Satan with all power and signs and lying wonders, And with all deceivableness of unrighteousness in them that perish; because they received not the love of the truth, that they might be saved.” – 2 Thess 2:9-10

But here’s where it gets scary. You see, Donald Trump has already spoken about how those who commit treason need to pay the ultimate price. He has already spoken about how drug dealers and those involved in human trafficking need to be executed.

For a man who is so obsessed with vengeance like he is – and who wants nothing more than to strike back at his perceived enemies – do you really think that he would turn down an opportunity to have AI conjure up evidence to implicate his enemies in those things?

In my opinion, not only will he not turn down an opportunity to conjure up evidence, he will embrace it. ♦
