When I First Suspected Trump

If there’s one thing I’ve always paid attention to in the comments on my videos, it’s probably the remarks about when someone first started to think that Trump could be the Antichrist.

Oftentimes people have commented that it’s only fairly recently, perhaps in the last year or two, that they’ve began to think he just might be the one we were warned about. Others, though, will say that they’ve suspected him for many years now, often going back a decade or two.

Perhaps the strangest common denominator mentioned as being a reason to suspect him as being the Antichrist was the way he spoke. To put it another way, the sound of his voice made many of us feel strangely uncomfortable.

Another common reason was how so many other Christians talked about Trump as being chosen by God, or that he’s the savior of America. To many of us, that was the veritable canary in the coal mine: a sure sign that something was wrong.

Personally speaking, I’ve been asked a number of times when I first began to think Trump might be that Man of Sin in the Bible. So, here is how that all began, and what led me to start making videos about him.

First, I’m not going to claim that I thought Trump was the Antichrist from the moment he came down the escalator back on June 16th, 2015 to announce his candidacy – a date which will live in infamy. And, by the way, it’s hard to believe that 10 years have now gone by.

Rather than thinking he was the Antichrist at the time, I remember viewing him as a complete joke and feeling that there was simply no way he could become the Republican nominee. My initial impression was that he was a sideshow act rather than a legitimate candidate.

But soon after that first impression, another thing struck me as odd. There was clearly something else going on beyond him simply being a reality TV star. He had the ability to pull people into his world with his manner of speaking. He could be mesmerizing.

As the months wore on in 2015, I began to see others remark that they just couldn’t look away from him, even comparing Trump to a car crash on a highway where everyone slows down to see what happened. The reality-star-turned-politician became must-see TV.

But even the analogy of a car crash didn’t quite fit, because in addition to everyone slowing down to listen to him, people also started tuning in because of what he might say next. He shot from the lip, and no one knew what crazy things might come out.

For a brief moment, I was also attracted to this aspect about Trump. He was just so different from the other politicians out there, and that never seemed more obvious to me than in the first republican primary debate in August of 2015.

If I recall, I believe I supported John Kasich at the time, but after that first debate, I would jokingly make comments such as “You can’t spell triumph without Trump!” on conservative sites such as The Right Scoop.

Now, back then The Right Scoop was largely full of Ted Cruz supporters, although nowadays it is entirely MAGA – which is pretty much true of all conservative media, with rare exception.

My brief fascination with Trump’s uniqueness after that first debate soon ended, however, as I started paying much more attention to what he said in interviews, both past and present, and the subsequent debates.

Once I started to do that, three things about Trump jumped out at me – and they just happened to be the three characteristics that I believe are the least desirable in another person.

One was his nonstop complimenting of himself. He simply never missed a moment to brag about what he had done, or how great he is, or even how he looked. His ego was so over-the-top that I was hard pressed to think of anyone else in his league.

The second thing was how he would denigrate others, oftentimes in the same sentence or paragraph where he praised himself. It was as if putting others down was an essential part of his building himself up.

The third thing that became obvious to me was how he simply did NOT care about the truth. He said whatever he wanted to say – about himself or about others – and it simply didn’t matter if it was true.

People often stated that he was a pathological liar, but it’s always been much more than that. He simply didn’t CARE about the truth. It held no value to him, unless of course, it served to make him look better.

Those three things – the bragging, the denigrating of others, and the constant lying – are what largely made up Trump’s character. And once I understood that, I was repulsed by him.

As 2015 ended and the first few months of 2016 flew by, I became more and more convinced that Trump was truly an evil man. That everything about him was built on deception. He was simply a vile person in every sense of the word.

And yet, it was also obvious that that he had this strange, supernatural hold over large numbers of conservatives – including many Christians. Either they didn’t see the same things I did, or they just didn’t care.

When it finally came to the election in 2016, I was sickened when Trump beat Clinton – not because I supported her, but because it seemed to me that a switch had been flipped. We had now crossed the Rubicon, and everything was about to go insane.

At that point I just knew something was wrong, and I was sure that Trump was dangerously evil. So in late 2016 I began to search YouTube for those who might be having the same type of reaction as I did.

And yet, nearly all the Bible-based or Christian related videos I encountered were telling me how great this was for Christians now that Trump was President. Trump was, in these Christian videos, chosen by God.

The more I watched and listened to these professed Christians talk about Trump, the more astonished I became. I wondered how they could be THAT deluded. From what I saw, Trump was NOT someone that we should be celebrating. Quite the opposite, in fact.

Finally, in early 2017 I stumbled across a Christian YouTube channel that was run by someone who was putting words to what I was feeling. He was loudly proclaiming that Donald J. Trump was the Antichrist.

That channel was Brother James Key, who many of you may already know. The first thing that jumped out at me back then was Brother Key’s genuineness, and how much he truly cared for others. I liked the fact that he wasn’t trying to sell a book or DVD.

It was just him sitting in his chair reading the gospel or talking about current events. He wasn’t speaking from a political point of view, but simply from what the Bible actually said. All of this resonated with me.

So when he spoke about Trump being the Antichrist, it all started to make sense. I viewed my having been led to Brother Key’s videos as confirmation that I was on the right track, even if very few other Christians back then were warning us about Trump.

Looking back now, it was Brother Key that helped me transition from my own belief that Trump was a uniquely dangerous and evil man TO a conviction that Trump was even more than that. He was the Antichrist.

Brother Key didn’t necessarily convince me that Trump was the Antichrist. Rather, he helped me find clarity in what I had been thinking over the previous few months. He helped me to understand WHY I was feeling the way I did about Trump.

As 2017 and 2018 went on I started to feel a strong desire to make videos about this, and so I tried to reacquaint myself with Bible prophecy, and how it described the Antichrist. Finally, in early 2020, I began this channel, which obviously focuses in on Donald J. Trump.

And by the way, there wasn’t any grand plan to wait three years from 2017 to 2020 before starting my channel. Sometimes life just gets in the way of doing things, and I’m also known to procrastinate from time to time, so that’s why I didn’t immediately start a YouTube channel.

Anyway, that’s the overview of my story, but I should add that none of us are going to get rewarded for being the first to know, so to speak. After all, it’s God who opens our minds to understand these things, and it has nothing to do with ourselves.

Still, it’s interesting to see how we’ve each come to understand that Trump could be the Antichrist at different times and in different ways. We all have had a unique path to the truth.

On that note, if you didn’t say so before, please leave a comment about how or when you first started to suspect that Trump could be the Man of Sin we were warned about in the Bible.

Or, if you’re not quite there yet, that’s okay, too. Plenty of people on here are still undecided. In that case, please keep watching the videos – but more importantly, please keep studying your Bible and drawing close to God in prayer.

That’s all for this video, so thanks for taking the time to watch and I will talk to you guys soon. ♦
