Trump Portrays Himself as the Savior of the World

About 6 and a half years ago, on August 21st of 2019, Donald Trump made a short remark that people still talk about to this day. While discussing trade actions against China, he said “I am the chosen one” while looking up to heaven.

Almost immediately there were two reactions. The first being that he was simply making a point about how the difficult task of dealing with China landed on his lap. The other reaction, of course, was from those who thought Trump really WAS claiming to be the chosen one.

Personally, I always thought his comment sounded more like mockery – almost as if he was being sarcastic about the idea of there even being any “chosen one”, but that’s just me.

However, the reason I mention that remark of his from 6 and a half years ago is that it could accurately be described as the start of Trump thinking that he might save the world. Here’s what I mean.

To anyone who has paid attention to Trump over the years, and especially since the beginning of his second term, it is truly remarkable how many things he has claimed to have saved.

He has said he saved the auto industry, Los Angeles, TikTok, NATO, America, millions of lives in his peace deals, 837 people from being executed in Iran.

He has said he has saved little things, like Kobe Bryant from an elevator fight, and he has said he saved big things, like 35 million lives in the India-Pakistan war.

He has claimed to have saved the U.S. economy, and billions of dollars in spending. He claimed to have saved 2 million lives and 51 million jobs during the pandemic, plus he saved one billion dollars on the U.S. embassy in Jerusalem.

He’s also saved, according to him, the political careers of numerous politicians and even the entire world from a depression. And I really could go on and on naming the things he has claimed to have saved, but here’s the point.

Donald Trump is deliberately portraying himself as the savior. Now, I know that sounds like hyperbole, but let’s talk about a couple of statements of his that SHOULD have outraged all Christians, but instead were met with almost universal silence.

On two occasions Trump said that God may have saved him in the assassination attempt so that he, Trump, could save the world. Once was at a news conference just before the election, and the second was during his interview with Dr. Phil.

Let’s just imagine for a moment that ANY other politician proclaimed that they just might save the world. Take Obama, for instance. Imagine him saying that God just might intend him to save the world.

The outrage would be immediate, especially from Christians, who know that the savior of the world is Jesus Christ. Obama wouldn’t have even been able to finish the day without having to answer to calls that he should resign, or Christians stating that he just showed he was the Antichrist.

Yet, when Trump said this, there was almost NO push back from church leaders, especially in the evangelical community.

They simply, once again, allowed a vile man to say whatever he wanted because they think they’re getting something out of it. In this case, worldly power.

A couple of weeks back I had a poll on my channel which asked whether people thought that Trump might one day proclaim himself to be God. Of the nearly three thousand people who responded, 47% said that they can absolutely imagine him saying that.

Another 35% thought he’s probably already said it, and 15% said that while they don’t think he will say it, if anyone is capable, it’s Donald J. Trump. Only 3% were of the opinion that there’s no way Trump would ever proclaim himself to be God.

Here’s the thing, though. The Antichrist doesn’t have to specifically mouth the words “I am God” in order to proclaim himself to be God. All he has to do is say that he is the savior of the world.

That’s because the Bible specifically states that Jesus is the savior of the world. Both John 4:42 and 1 John 4:14 explicitly call Jesus the “Savior of the world.” Jesus himself also said that He came to save the world in John 3:17 and John 12:47.

That matters since the Bible also states the Jesus IS God in numerous verses, such as in John 1:1: “In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God.” In addition:

In John 10:30, Jesus states, “I and the Father are one.”

In John 20:28, Thomas declares to Jesus, “My Lord and my God!”

In Titus 2:13, we see Jesus referenced as “our great God and Savior.”

And in Hebrews 1:8, God the Father says to the Son, “Your throne, O God, is forever and ever.”

The Bible clearly teaches us that the savior of the world is Jesus Christ, and that He is God. This means that when Donald Trump says that his purpose could be to save the world, he is literally saying that he IS our savior, and that he IS God. ♦
