Something Wicked This Way Comes: The Return of Trump to Social Media

In today’s video I want to talk about the impending return of Donald Trump to social media, and how – by this summer – he will once again have a platform to sow discord throughout our country. Trump getting back on social media has been rumored for a couple of months now, since the day he was permanently banned from Twitter, and indefinitely suspended by Facebook.

It was clear right away that Trump’s enormous ego, and innate desire to strike back at perceived enemies, would motivate him to find a way back to social media as quickly as possible. As many of those around Trump have said in the past, when Trump is attacked, he strikes back 10 times harder. He is vengeful to an extreme.

Trump advisor makes statement

Trump senior adviser Jason Miller told Fox News this past Sunday, “I do think that we’re going to see President Trump returning to social media in probably about two or three months here, with his own platform. And this is something that I think will be the hottest ticket in social media. It’s going to completely redefine the game, and everybody is going to be waiting and watching to see what exactly President Trump does.”

Miller’s statement that everyone is going to be waiting and watching to see what Trump does is certainly reminiscent of Revelation 13:3, which tells us that the whole world will wonder after the beast.

Over the past week we have had reports that Trump has been in talks with a number of lesser-known app vendors as he contemplates partnering with an existing platform to create his own social media network. According to Axios, among the social networking apps the former president has considered, is a relatively unknown platform called FreeSpace.

FreeSpace seems to be an odd choice

Of all the potential apps that might interest Trump, it’s certainly odd that FreeSpace is one of them. FreeSpace bills itself as being “backed by science to positively reinforce good habits & make the world a better place.” It talks about finding common values and highlighting them, so people become ‘addicted’ to doing good.

FreeSpace’s focus on positivity would appear to be the polar opposite of the incendiary and divisive social media approach Trump employed before he was banned from Twitter and Facebook following the Jan. 6 Capitol attack.

It’s also unclear how this business relationship would work, since, quoting Axios, “Trump is famously averse to putting his own money into companies, preferring to license his name and use other people’s money to fund his ventures.”

Trump’s reemergence on FreeSpace this summer – if it happens at all – could end up being a minor footnote. Social media giants Facebook and Twitter are also considering allowing Trump back on their platforms in the very near future.

Facebook’s new Oversight Board will announce, sometime in the next few weeks, whether Trump will be allowed to post again on Facebook and Instagram. Based on its recent rulings in other cases, the board seems likely to end Facebook’s suspension of Trump.

Twitter also seems ready to reverse its ban on Trump. In a March 18 corporate blog post titled “Calling for public input on our approach to world leaders”, the company announced it’s reviewing its policies “to remain relevant to the ever-changing nature of political discourse on Twitter and protect the health of the public conversation.”

And we can’t disregard the money factor here. Both Facebook and Twitter know full well that if Trump DID start his own platform, it would be an absolute earthquake in the social media world. For the health of their own bottom lines, they might be better off allowing Trump back on THEIR platforms.

Something Wicked is, indeed, coming our way

Many of you might recognize the title of this video, Something Wicked This Way Comes, as being a line from Shakespeare’s MacBeth. It’s also the title of a 1962 novel by Ray Bradbury, and a 1983 Disney movie, which was based on the novel.

In MacBeth, the line “By the pricking of my thumbs, Something wicked this way comes” is uttered by one of three witches, and it’s in reference to King MacBeth about to return to them. In Shakespeare’s play, MacBeth had turned into a wicked man – something that the witches themselves had helped to create.

Using MacBeth as an analogy, today’s three witches would be social media giants like Twitter, Facebook, and YouTube, who helped to create Trump in the first place. They see Trump’s return as imminent, and recognize that his true nature is that of a wicked man.

And, while this scene from MacBeth is certainly analogous to Trump returning to social media, there’s a more important biblical allusion here, as well.

The title of this video, Something Wicked This Way Comes, is a reference to Proverbs 6, and to a passage called The Wicked Man, which is an absolutely perfect description of Donald J. Trump.

A worthless person, a wicked man,
Walks with a perverse mouth;
He winks with his eyes,
shuffles his feet,
He points with his fingers;
Perversity is in his heart,
He devises evil continually,
He sows discord.

Sowing discord comes naturally to Trump, and it’s something that he seems to enjoy immensely. He simply doesn’t care how much he has to denigrate and attack one person – or one group of people – as long as another group of people loves him because of it.

Thus, it seems like our all too short break from the vileness of Donald J. Trump is about to come to an end, probably as early as this summer. Something wicked is, indeed, coming this way.

We need to be ready for the wicked man to return, for as the bible says, the Antichrist will wear out the saints of the Most High. And make no mistake about it, Donald J. Trump IS the Antichrist.
