In case you didn’t see the story from earlier today, the Trump administration is poised to accept a luxury airliner called a “palace in the sky” as a gift for Trump from the royal family of Qatar. Here’s a short clip from ABC news.
According to experts, the value of the aircraft Trump will take possession of is over $400 million, and that is before any additional upgrades the Air Force will need to add to properly secure and outfit the plane in order to safely transport him.
Here are a few images of the interior of this plane, and you can see that it already has that over-the-top opulent décor that is bordering on gold. It should be interesting to see how this palace-in-the-sky will be further upgraded, if we remember Trump’s own love of gold.
The highly unusual arrangement is sure to raise questions about whether it is legal for the Trump administration to accept such a valuable gift from a foreign power.
Lawyers for the White House counsel’s office and the Department of Justice concluded that it does not violate laws against bribery or the Constitution’s prohibition of any U.S. government official accepting gifts “from any King, Prince or foreign State.”
The gift is expected to be announced in the next week or two, possibly when Trump visits Qatar on the first foreign trip of his second term. One thing for sure, the royal family of Qatar certainly knows how to play to Trump’s ego, and they understand how he clearly sees himself as a king.
Late today, Qatar claimed that no final decision has been made on giving this luxury airliner to Trump, but obviously they’re just waiting for the final go-ahead from the Trump administration that this would be legal.
So, it certainly appears that King Trump will soon have his very own golden palace in the sky – yet one more way he can magnify his own name above all others. ♦
