Earlier this week I had a poll on my channel about the most damaging myths about the Antichrist, and I want to spend a few moments talking about the results so far.
As you can see, there were five options for this poll, and that’s simply because YouTube limits the options to only five, otherwise I would have included a couple of other myths about the Antichrist. But let’s look at the results based on those five options.
First, at the top we see that the myth that the Antichrist will be loved by the world received 24% of the vote. And indeed, this IS a very damaging myth, as it causes many Christians to eliminate certain people, such as Trump, because they perceive them as not being loved.
What Christians need to understand is that the bible does NOT say anything about the Antichrist being loved or hated. It does say that he will be worshiped, but this will be worship based on fear, because no one can fight against him. In the last days, fear and not love will be the dominant emotion.
Second, we see that the myth that the Antichrist will be gay, a eunuch or asexual received 20% of the vote. And once again this IS a very damaging myth as it causes many Christians to eliminate certain people, such as Trump, because they are heterosexual.
This myth comes from a misunderstanding of Daniel 11:37, which many Christians think states that the Antichrist will be gay. It does not, and if you’re new to my channel, I have a short video on this topic, and you’ll see a link up top.
Third, we see that the myth that the Antichrist gives the Mark of the Beast received 7% of the vote. Although that is much less than the first two, this CAN mislead many Christians into focusing on the wrong individual as they believe the Mark of the Beast is the one key sign of the Antichrist.
In case you’re not sure on this one, Revelation 13 describes two different beasts: the first one being the Antichrist and the second one being the False Prophet. And it is the False Prophet, not the Antichrist, who causes the world to receive the Mark of the Beast.
Fourth, the myth that the Antichrist will be Assyrian or Muslim received 12% of the vote. This is also a very damaging myth, as it causes many Christians to put blinders on and focus only on someone with that specific heritage as being the Antichrist.
If you’ve heard that the prophecy of the Assyrian refers to the Antichrist, please note that these two biblical figures not only have two different purposes but also two different fates. The Assyrian is crushed on the mountains of Jerusalem while the Antichrist is thrown ALIVE into the lake of fire.
Fifth, the myth that the Antichrist will be CLEARLY anti-christian received 38% of the vote, and I completely agree that this IS the most damaging of these five myths. Many Christians mistakenly assume that the Man of Sin will be easy to identify because he will be obviously ANTI Christ.
In fact, this belief is pretty common. Most YouTube videos talk about how the Antichrist will arrive on the scene with an overt anti-Christian agenda. He will have sympathies or affiliations with people and organizations that are opposed to Christianity’s core beliefs.
He will be openly against America in some way, as if America is the epitome of Christianity. He will promote socialism or communism, be pro-choice, be in favor of open borders and globalization, and even be a proponent of a New World Order.
The problem with this teaching, as we read in Second Corinthians, is that “Satan himself is transformed into an angel of light … Therefore it is no great thing if his ministers also be transformed as the ministers of righteousness.”
Thus, rather than being clearly anti-Christian – the bible is teaching us that we should expect the final Antichrist to come on the scene as a strong supporter of Christianity and of Israel. He will masquerade himself as a force for good, and as a defender of Christian values.
The TRUE agenda of the Antichrist will, of course, be anti-christian. However he will not seem to be that to most Christians, as they will perceive him to be a defender of the faith. In reality he is a wolf in sheep’s clothing; a Trojan horse out to destroy Christianity from the inside out.
There is a famous quote, usually attributed to Sinclair Lewis, that “When fascism comes to America, it will come wrapped in the flag and carrying a cross.” Whether or not Sinclair Lewis actually said this is suspect, but it is a great quote.
A paraphrased version might read “When the Antichrist comes on the scene, he will come wrapped in the flag and carrying a cross.” And if you think about it, there is simply no better way than this for one of Satan’s ministers to slither his way into the Christian community.
And as a matter of fact, Trump has not only wrapped himself in the American flag, a time-tested method to getting the support of Evangelical Christians, but he has also presented himself as the Great Defender of Christianity.
And the Christian community, with a stunning lack of discernment, has proudly stood behind this Man of Sin, viewing him as their hero – even idolizing him as the savior of America.
But this idea that the Antichrist will arrive on the scene with clearly identifiable anti-Christian traits is a myth. He will arrive – and has arrived – right in our midst, and right under our noses. He pretends to be a force for good and a defender of Christianity, when in fact he’s exactly the opposite.
As the bible says, Satan’s ministers masquerade themselves as ministers of righteousness, and the Antichrist has done precisely that. He claims to have the interests of Christianity in his heart, when in fact he wants all the praise, all the honor, and all the glory, for himself.
