An interesting news story came out over the last few days, as Elon Musk has offered to proceed with his $44 billion purchase of Twitter, according to a letter his lawyer sent to Twitter’s legal team and that was submitted to regulators on Tuesday, October 4th.
What made the story interesting wasn’t so much Musk’s intent to follow through with his purchase, but that more details have come out as far as WHY he wants to do so. As Musk himself said, “Buying Twitter is an accelerant to creating X, the everything app.”
Interestingly, the letter that Musk’s attorney sent to Twitter’s legal team and to regulators was sent on behalf of “X Holdings 1, Inc” and “X Holdings 2, Inc” in addition to Musk himself.
An “everything app”, or “super app” as it often referred to, is an app which serves as a hub for multiple services within a single user interface. The concept is based on WeChat, the model for mobile software that’s dominant in China, and which is considered the original super app.
