This wasn’t on my list of videos coming up in April that I just did, but I think the topic is worth covering briefly as it perfectly demonstrates the strong delusion going on right now among so many conservative Christians.
Here’s the background: Former President Donald Trump held a rally in Michigan on Saturday night. At that rally, the opening invocation was given by Preacher Rick Warzywak, a Michigan-based pastor who is director of Transformation Michigan.
On the Transformation Michigan website, Warzywak states that “On a Worldwide Scale God fully intends to … raise up a Church, a nation of kings and priests.” This, of course, sounds exactly like the completely unbiblical Seven Mountain Mandate.
In case you’re not familiar with it, the Seven Mountain Mandate states that, in order for Jesus to return to earth, the church must take control of the seven major areas of society for the glory of God.
Once the world has been made subject to the kingdom of God, THEN Jesus will return and rule the world. Here are those seven mountains:
1) Education
2) Religion
3) Family
4) Business
5) Government/Military
6) Arts/Entertainment
7) Media
From what I’ve read about Rick Warzywak, he never comes out and specifically states that he is a follower of the Seven Mountain Mandate in so many words, but all of his writings give that distinct impression.
And one of these seven “mountains” is government, which brings us to Warzywak’s invocation on Saturday night at Trump’s rally. Here’s a short clip of what he said, and see if you can notice any problems with his prayer.
“Father in heaven, we firmly believe that Donald Trump is the current and true president of the United States. You have raised him up for this season and time to be used, to be part in saving a nation. Bless and protect him and his family from any physical, spiritual attacks, and may his voice still the people to righteous action to bring godly men and women into elected office, in Michigan and across America. We declare that he will be back in office soon — very soon — in Jesus’ name. Amen.”
The first problem with this prayer is that it starts off with a declaration that does NOT belong in a prayer to God. Instead of some variation of “hallowed be thy name, thy kingdom come, thy will be done”, it’s Father in heaven, we believe Trump is the real president.
Second, the statement of “You have raised him up for this season and time to be used, to be part in saving a nation” points out the heart of the problem with many conservative Christians today. They are projecting onto God an assumption that THEY want to be true.
Third, the mention of bringing godly men and women into elected office is straight out of the Seven Mountain Mandate theology. The bible tells us over and over that we are NOT to love the things of this world, and politics are exactly that.
Fourth, the prayer is REALLY about what the preacher and those in attendance want. It’s a prayer that THEIR will be done. “We believe” that Trump is the current and true president, and “we declare” that he will be back in office soon.
And this happens a lot with those who refer to Trump as being another King Cyrus, an imperfect man raised up by God to do good things. But the problem with Trump being another King Cyrus is, in one word, perspective.
The story of King Cyrus happened over 2,500 years ago, and we know NOW that he was chosen by God because the biblical account tells us so. By contrast, Trump is currently on the scene and there is NOT a biblical account of him being chosen by God.
There are, however, MANY biblical verses that give us specific descriptions of the end-times Man of Sin, and not so coincidentally, Trump happens to be a perfect match.
This invocation by Rick Warzywak is a microcosm of all that is wrong today with conservative Christianity. I’ll be back in a couple of days with a video that goes much deeper into this delusion, as it covers the specific blind spots affecting so many on the right.
