The Sermon the Church Needed

As many of us have already seen by now, a couple of days ago there was an exceptional sermon given by Pastor Loran Livingston of the Central Church in Charlotte, NC.

In the sermon, Pastor Livingston not only rebuked Christians for confusing politics with being spiritual, but he also warned about the clear and obvious blasphemy of the “God Bless the USA Bible.”

For those of you who haven’t seen it, here’s the clip now, and pay special attention to how quiet the audience was for the most part. This is likely an indication that many were shocked that someone is actually saying these things, but also, a lot of them probably didn’t like hearing the message.

So there we have Pastor Livingston’s sermon, which has gone viral on social media – and the biggest reason for it going viral is how unusual it was. Almost NO ONE in the church has had the courage to say what he said.

Hopefully his sermon will wake up a few Christians, and help them get away from politics and the extreme patriotism that has poisoned their faith. That they will begin to understand that these things are antithetical to what it means to be a Christian.

But will his sermon wake up any other pastors in the church? I doubt many will awake, because in my opinion, not only are 99% of them already waist-deep in the sewage of politics, but they love being there. ♦
