Since Donald J. Trump burst onto the political scene about 7 years ago, it seems a day never goes by without hearing his name or seeing his face. The media can’t get enough of him, while millions of Americans just want him to go away.
But in addition to his name and image being ubiquitous in the media, his shadow looms large over the American political landscape, despite the fact that he is no longer in office.
In fact, Trump’s political influence is so remarkable that not only do candidates on the right view his endorsement as the proverbial golden ticket to their future, many emulate him as much as possible – often to an extreme.
For their part, candidates on the left seek to paint their political opponents on the right as being aligned with Trump, as they know that just saying his name is enough to rile up their base.
And if the constant right vs. left political war isn’t enough to divide us, a strange new virus has driven many Americans crazy over the past few years. That virus is called Trump Derangement Syndrome, and it has permeated both political parties, right down to the grass roots.
While TDS originally was meant to describe many of the crazy reactions from the political left, it soon became an apt description for many on the political right – especially Evangelical Christians – who would defend Trump no matter what.
Much of this stems from the fact that Trump, just by being himself, has an astounding ability to divide people into one of two camps. You most likely either strongly approve of him, even love him – or you passionately oppose him, even hate him.
And it’s exactly these reactions TO Trump from ordinary Americans that are the most amazing. That’s especially true from his more hard-core supporters, who will often elevate him above other politicians.
In their eyes, all politicians lie, except for Trump who tells it like it is. And if Trump is being attacked by the media or the democrats or even other republicans, it’s not because Trump did anything wrong, but because everyone else is out to get him.
Even more than that, Trump is now being lauded to such an extreme level by some of his supporters, and in terms that are both anti-American and sacrilegious, that it might shock those who don’t know.
I’m specifically referring to the term GEOTUS. If you haven’t heard it before, GEOTUS is an acronym for God Emperor of the United States. Where does this come from?
GEOTUS is most popular with the younger generation of Trump supporters on Reddit, although it is also seen on Twitter and other social media platforms.
But why would a segment of the right embrace such a loaded title as God Emperor of the United States? Because the idea of an American president being a strongman, or even a dictator, is EXACTLY what they want to happen.
But, it’s even more than just wanting a strongman: to them, Trump IS God and Emperor. He isn’t just the former POTUS, trying to make a political comeback. Instead, he is the all-powerful, unstoppable, unbeatable force of nature destined to rule over all of us.
Who can fight against the GEOTUS? In their eyes, no one can.
And, in fact, they are right. It IS impossible to fight against Trump, because he will say or do anything to win. There is simply no depth he won’t go in order to elevate himself – and this is what makes him such a force in the political arena and on the world stage.
But here’s the amazing thing. While those on the right begin to cast Trump as the unstoppable God Emperor of the United States, the bible describes a similar figure in the end-times who just so happens to match Trump perfectly. Let me give you an example.
In the 8th chapter of Daniel, there are three verses that are especially applicable to the Antichrist in these last days. Those verses are 23 through 25, and here they are:
“And in the latter time of their kingdom, when the transgressors are come to the full, a king of fierce countenance, and understanding dark sentences, shall stand up.
“And his power shall be mighty, but not by his own power: and he shall destroy wonderfully, and shall prosper, and practise, and shall destroy the mighty and the holy people.
“And through his policy also he shall cause craft to prosper in his hand; and he shall magnify himself in his heart, and by peace shall destroy many: he shall also stand up against the Prince of princes; but he shall be broken without hand.” – Daniel 8:23-25
Let’s take a moment to look at each of these 3 verses as they apply to Trump. First verse 23 says “a king of fierce countenance, and understanding dark sentences.” Sometimes other translations can help to fully bring out the meaning of verses in the King James.
“… a fierce-looking king, a master of intrigue, will arise.” – NIV
“… a king who is dangerous and cannot be trusted will appear.” – CEV
“… A king shall arise, Having fierce features, Who understands sinister schemes.” – NKJV
Trump is the literal poster boy for having a fierce countenance and his actions absolutely demonstrate that he understand sinister schemes.
Now, let’s look at first 24, which says this king “shall prosper, and practise.” Again, that’s the KJV, so let’s look at a couple of other translations to make this verse more clear.
“… will succeed in whatever he does.” – NIV
“… shall prosper and thrive.” – NKJV
“… will succeed, and will do whatever he wants.” – ISV
Again, that’s Trump – the Teflon Don. He is able to get away with things that no other politician could hope to do. As many times as his opponents have thought him to be done, he has come back time and time again.
I want to add one other translation here. Check out how the Douay-Rheims Bible translates verse 24.
“… shall prosper, and do more than can be believed.” – Douay-Rheims Bible
I find this translation to be truly remarkable because of how often Trump said he has accomplished something that no one could believe would have been possible.
Finally, let’s look at verse 25, and again we’re in the 8th chapter of Daniel. Verse 25 says, “… he shall cause craft to prosper in his hand.” I think that’s pretty clear, but let’s amplify that just a bit with these translations.
“He shall cause deceit to prosper under his rule” – NKJV
“… through his shrewdness He will make deceit a success by his influence.” – NAS
“He will cause deceit to prosper through his cunning and by his influence” – Holman CSB
Once again, we see a perfect portrait of Donald J. Trump and those around him, who have engaged in extraordinarily unethical and often illegal behavior.
There are also references in these 3 verses to how the Antichrist will be powerful, but it’s not his own power, because it comes from the bottomless pit. And he shall destroy wonderfully, which means greatly or fearfully. And also how he shall magnify himself in his own heart.
These three verses in Daniel 8 describe an end-times figure called the Antichrist, and they are a perfect description of Donald J. Trump. But the end of those verses tell us what’s going to happen in the very near future.
You see, the Antichrist will ONLY succeed for a short time, before he and his legions of supporters have the most shocking revelation of all: the return of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ.
