Hi, everyone, thanks for watching. In today’s video I’d like to spend a few minutes going over whether or not the first few verses of Revelation 12 were fulfilled on September 23rd, 2017.
In case you’ve forgotten, Chapter 12 of Revelation begins by painting a vivid picture for us, as John describes seeing a great wonder in heaven: that of a woman clothed with the sun, with the moon at her feet and a crown of 12 stars.
Before starting, I want to say right up front that this will be an honest and objective take on what happened, and will not be slanted one way or the other. Because of that, some of you may dislike my conclusion. I do hope, however, that you will at least hear me out and watch to the end of the video before posting any comments.
I should also mention that the reason I want to talk about this is because, during my short time here on YouTube, I have had a number of people commenting about this particular prophecy, and the specific things that they expect to happen based on it being true.
For example, apparently a number of Christians believe that the tribulation began in September of 2017, and since we’re getting close to 3 and ½ years from that date, those who believe in the mid-tribulation rapture now expect to be raptured away at almost any moment.
Thus, it is important to understand if what they are saying is accurate, and what we should believe about these specific verses. So, without further delay, let’s begin.
First, let’s look at the beginning of Revelation 12, focusing in on the first two verses, which are most directly related to the astronomical events of September 23rd, 2017. Those two verses read as follows:
“And there appeared a great wonder in heaven; a woman clothed with the sun, and the moon under her feet, and upon her head a crown of twelve stars: And she being with child cried, travailing in birth, and pained to be delivered.”
There are four different scenes being described in these two verses. A woman is clothed with the sun; the moon is under her feet; her head has a crown of twelve stars; she is pregnant and in labor.
The argument for these verses being fulfilled is based on what happened in the constellation Virgo on September 23rd, 2017. So, let’s see if those four scenes from Revelation 12, verse 1 and 2, match up with what happened in the constellation Virgo on September 23, 2017.
First, the bible talks about a woman “clothed with the sun”. It turns out that on September 23rd, 2017, the constellation Virgo, the only zodiac sign that uses a feminine symbol, actually had the sun in its middle, effectively covering it up. We can say that this first one matches up.
Second, the bible talks about the “moon under her feet”. It turns out that on September 23rd, 2017, the constellation Virgo also had the moon positioned at the bottom, or what would be her feet. This second one also matches up.
Third, the bible talks about a “crown of twelve stars”. It turns out that on September 23rd, 2017, there were 3 planets – Mercury, Venus and Mars – and nine stars from the constellation Leo, sitting just above the head of Virgo. This third one also seems to match up.
Fourth, the bible talks about the woman “being with child”. It turns out that on September 23rd, 2017, the planet Jupiter, the largest planet in our solar system, was at the center of Virgo, in what would be the womb area, before exiting toward the her feet over the next few weeks. Jupiter would spend a total of about 9 months in the constellation Virgo. This fourth one matches up, as well.
But, as those infomercials say, wait – there’s more!
On October 19th, 2017, the first-known interstellar object was discovered traveling through our solar system. This strange oblong shaped object was dubbed Oumuamua, from the Hawaiian meaning, “a messenger from afar arriving first”. What was the message that Oumuamua was bringing?
On top of that, we have the discovery of the comet Borisov on December 13th, 2018. Borisov is the first-known interstellar comet traveling though our solar system.
Before Jupiter spent those 9 months in the constellation Virgo, the comet Borisov, traveled from what would be the loins of constellation Leo to what would be the womb of the constellation Virgo, thus earning its nickname, the Conception Comet.
So, what does this all mean? To almost any Christian studying the first two verses in Revelation 12, and then looking at what actually happened in the sky above on September 23rd, 2017, the biblical connection is breathtaking. A great wonder in heaven, indeed!
So far, it does look like we could make a strong argument that these celestial events fulfilled the first two verses of Revelation 12. But, the truth is very important here, and we need to also look at the other side of the argument. It turns out that there are ALSO 5 problems with accepting this as a prophecy fulfilled, with one of those problems being a VERY BIG RED FLAG.
Problem #1: Revelation 12 does not state that this would be a sign in the last days. John was describing a vision that HE saw, but there is NO indication given that we are to watch out for this kind of sign. The imagery is certainly symbolic, but that doesn’t make it a sign we should watch for in the end times.
Problem #2: The celestial events of September 23rd, 2017, weren’t even visible to us here on earth on, as the sun was in the middle of the constellation Virgo, thus obscuring all the stars, and blinding us to what was happening. It was simply impossible for anyone on earth to actually see this wonder in heaven. Shouldn’t signs in heaven be visible to those on earth?
Problem #3: This particular celestial alignment is rare, but not extremely so. In fact, a very similar – almost identical – alignment has happened four other times in just the past 1000 years, in 1827, in 1483, in 1293, and in 1056. In each of these previous alignments, the sun was in Virgo, the moon was at the feet, planets and stars were above, and the planet Jupiter was in the middle.
Problem #4: There’s a mathematical problem with the “crown of 12 stars”. The math problem is that Leo has MORE than 9 stars. According to the International Astronomical Union, Leo has 13 named stars – with 11 of those 13 stars actually having confirmed planets. There’s no rational explanation for why we would be ignoring these other stars, except that it wouldn’t add up to 12 if we counted them, it would add up to 16.
Problem #5: And this problem is the major red flag for me. The idea that the first two verses of Revelation 12 were fulfilled on September 23rd, 2017 relies on the ZODIAC, or astrological signs for us to understand. Why would God repeatedly warn us against divination, which includes astrology, only to give us a prophecy that could only be understood by using astrology?
The Verdict: Now that we have all of this information, should we believe that the first two verses of Revelation 12 were fulfilled on September 23rd, 2017? My answer is … no, I don’t believe that we should, and that’s because of these 5 facts:
1) The bible doesn’t tell us to look out for this kind of a sign.
2) This alignment wasn’t even VISIBLE from earth because of the sun.
3) This alignment has happened four other times in the last 1000 years.
4) The constellation Leo has 13 stars, not 9, so adding in 3 planets would total 16 stars above the head of Virgo, not the 12 needed to match Revelation.
5) Most importantly, it requires us to use astrological symbols to interpret God’s prophecy, even though God has warned us against divination, which includes astrology.
To any of you who are steadfast in your belief that the events of September 23, 2017 were a fulfillment of Revelation 12, I respectfully ask that you please consider WHY we should use astrology to understand any biblical prophecy. In what other prophecy have we ever had to do this, or told that this should be done?
Furthermore, could not the need to use astrology – something God told us not to do – possibly point to this being a deception? That Satan might want to deceive Christians into thinking that the tribulation had already begun back in 2017?
Finally, we should remember that many religions other than Christianity talk about the end times, including figures such as an Antichrist and a Messiah. They all have their own signs and prophecies for what’s going to happen. But that doesn’t mean we should combine their beliefs with what the bible says.
While it’s certainly odd that the events in the sky on September 23rd, 2017, seem to mimic, to a degree, what’s written at the beginning Revelation 12, there are many examples of Satan using pale imitations of God’s word. Using astrology would certainly line up with Satan’s desire to deceive Christians.
We should NEVER mix bible prophecy and astrology, even if our intentions are good, and even if we think it fulfills a specific bible prophecy. Let’s keep our understanding of the bible as pure as we can, and as far away from the false teachings of THIS world as possible.
That’s all for today. Thanks for watching, and if you care to leave a comment, please do. As always, please be respectful in any comment you leave. I’ll talk to you guys soon. ♦
