The truth is that the bible does NOT say no one can know who the Antichrist is, or even suspect who he may be.
In fact, look at what the bible does give us right now:
- The bible gives us specific descriptions of the character traits of the Antichrist.
- The bible admonishes us over and over again to pay attention to what’s going on in the last days.
- The book of Revelation is given to us to understand what’s going to happen beforehand, so that we are not deceived.
- The book of Daniel was to be locked up until the time of the end – which is our time.
- Jesus himself gave us specific signs that we are to watch out for before he returns.
NONE of these things – prophecy, signs, character traits of the Antichrist – would be in the bible if no one can know who the Antichrist is before he’s revealed. If no one could know, then the bible would not be full of specific descriptions of the Man of Sin.
Putting all these things together, true Christians can use the bible to identify the Antichrist now, AND the Antichrist will be revealed to the rest of the world at a later day. Both of these things are true.
The reason the bible gives us signs and prophecy, and specifically describes character traits of the Antichrist is so that TRUE Christians won’t be caught unaware, fall away from the faith, and take the Mark of the Beast.
The revealing of the Antichrist isn’t intended for those who have studied God’s word and know or suspect who the Man of Sin is. Instead, the revealing in 2 Thessalonians is for the world at large and for those who were deluded by the Antichrist.
It is their literal “come to Jesus” moment. They get one final chance to turn AWAY from the Antichrist and TOWARD the real Christ.
It will be a worldwide revealing of the Antichrist, so that all of those who take the Mark of the Beast will KNOW what they are doing. No one will take the Mark of the Beast by accident, or by force. Everyone will know WHO it represents, and the choice will be clear between taking the Mark as a sign of allegiance to the Antichrist. Or refusing the Mark and following Jesus.
So, again, the idea that no one can know who the Antichrist is before he is revealed is a myth. The bible never says that Christians won’t know who the man of sin is. In fact, that’s the whole reason we are given these specific descriptions of the Antichrist: So we DON’T fall under the strong delusion and we DON’T follow the Antichrist down the road to perdition.
To sum everything up,
Myth #1 is that the Antichrist will be loved by most people. In fact, the bible teaches us that the Antichrist will be feared, not loved, and that he will rule by fear because of his unmatched power.
Myth #2 is that the Antichrist will appear with an anti-Christian agenda. In fact, the bible teaches us that Satan’s ministers masquerade themselves as ministers of righteousness, and that is exactly how we should expect the Antichrist to appear at first.
Myth #3 is that no one knows who the Antichrist is right now. In fact, the bible gives us specific descriptions of the Antichrist, and prophecies of what he will do, in order that we are NOT deceived by him. The revealing in 2 Thessalonians is a worldwide event that is intended for a worldwide audience, and for those who had been previously deluded by the beast.
Remember, the Antichrist is attempting to delude the world into folllowing. Many of us will fall away from the truth and follow him down the road to perdition.
Watch out for him, do not follow him, because as Peter said: “Be sober-minded; be watchful . Your adversary the devil prowls around like a roaring lion, seeking someone to devour.”
